Description
Ila Suleyman finds inspiration in the jewelry and customs of the Mamprusi people to create the modern design of the 'Yembo' necklace. Yembo is the name traditionally given to the first-born daughter. Similar to a torsade, the necklace is crafted by hand with green leather cords and centered by three cow bone beads. The necklace fastens with a black recycled plastic button.
From northern Ghana, the Mamprusi people are predominantly rice and cattle farmers who use cow hide and bones to create various items including jewelry and accessories.
