Ceramic Wall Mask of a Mayan Noble from El Salvador
(You save )
Contributing to the administration of the kingdom, nobles were an important and exalted part of ancient Mayan culture. El Salvador's Oscar Rodolfo Mendoza creates this Mayan noble mask, which is handcrafted from ceramic and painted by hand with natural brown and red pigments derived from the achiote plant. The noble wears a feathery headdress and round earrings. A nylon cord on the back allows it to be hung on a wall.
